book cover finalMy sincere thank you to all those who have waited patiently for this book to be published, and especially to those who have donated to help finance this very long, arduous endeavor these past few years. Now that we know the approximate date for the David Love vs Scientology-Narconon et al. court hearing, we will not be publishing the results in a book chapter. I will instead, go with what we have from the past five years and perhaps another book will follow – we’ll see. Once again, thank you, and we look forward to publishing as soon as possible. For now, I’ll just drop ‘some’ interesting documents in this article. For obvious reasons, other confidential documents will not be posted until the date approaches for the Montreal Lawsuit hearing when additional evidence will be submitted to the court.

Indeed, it’s been a long, five year journey with formal complaints filed with Canada Health, Revenue Canada, Canada Competition Bureau, FBI, RCMP, Trois-Rivieres Police, Quebec Ombudsman, Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services, Quebec Accreditation Committee, Quebec Bar Association, Quebec College of Physicians, Normes du Travail (Labour Board), and the Quebec Human Rights Commission.

And, of course, the lawsuit filed at the Montreal Courthouse. In a stall tactic, Scientology files a Motion to Dismiss on grounds that the Statutes of Limitations have passed. David Love submits addition evidence documents to oppose their Motion – citing Dead Agent, Harassment/ Defamation attacks were recent and posted on Narconon Canada websites in concert with the named defendants promoting such attacks. Motion dismissed.

Screen captures on Narconon websites were entered into evidence clearly showing the conspiracy. Once the Plaintiffs reviewed the evidence submitted to the Court, the Narconon websites quickly removed the Defamation/Harassment links as seen in these two images here:

“To whom it may concern,

I, David Edgar Love, do hereby submit this formal complaint concerning the two aforementioned Registered Charities, Narconon Trois-Rivieres and Narconon Incorporated.

I was a patient at Narconon from December 1, 2008, until May 1, 2009; then employed by Narconon from May1, 2009 to November 3, 2009. My staff position was as a Course Room Supervisor, then as a Registrar, Graduate Officer, and I/C in charge or building a new charitable Foundation. As such, I was in a staff position to review particular documents concerning the operations at Narconon Trois-Rivieres.

Narconon Incorporated, Brad Melnychuk, was also at Narconon Trois-Rivieres for an extended period, performing inspections, administering and directing the affairs and production of Narconon directors and staff.

Also at Narconon, were staff members from Narconon Canada, Narconon International, and from the church of Scientology in Montreal? All of these entities were at Narconon Trois-Rivieres at the same time. Each and every executive from these entities were scientologists, including all of the Narconon Trois-Rivieres executives and many other staff members.”

To whom it may concern,

I David Edgar Love, hereby submit this formal complaint against the Church of Scientology, Montreal, 4489 Papineau Street Montreal, Québec, Canada H2H 1T7; ABLE Canada, 20 Carthage Ave, SCARBOROUGH, Ontario, M1R 4Y2; Narconon Trois-Rivieres, 7535 Boulevard Parent, Trois-Rivières QC,

Canada; Narconon Canada (Dissolved), Narconon International, 4652 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, CA 90027, Church of Scientology International, 6331 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles 90028, and David Miscavige, 6331 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles 90028  In addition to the Corporate Entities, each and every Executive Director of the aforesaid is named; being responsible and accountable for the administration and directives at the rehabilitation center at Narconon Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada.

– These patients are forced to perform such manual labour as shovelling snow, washing walls, and cleaning tables and mopping floors. A duty which is normally performed by staff members. If the patient refuses, they are sent to the Ethics Office and interrogated. Many times, this patient is coerced and encouraged to disconnect from family members and friends.

The Scientology Religious Doctrines prescribe this policy of Disconnection. The patient is told that these relatives or friends are Suppressive Persons and causing the patient to be a Potential Trouble Source. I have the documents on this process which is quite disturbing.

– These patients are harassed, suppressed, brain washed, controlled, discriminated against, and exploited.

I have more than 9,600 pages of documented proof, that Narconon Trois-Rivieres is the Religious Cult called Scientology and must follow all of the Scientology Religious Doctrines.

Indeed, this is a dangerous and destructive cult and is under investigation by the Human Rights Commission, the Labour Relations Board, the College of Physicians, the Ministry of Health and Social Services, the Competition Bureau of Canada, the FBI, and facing Court Hearings in Quebec.

I recently had a meeting in Ottawa in the office of the Honourable Senator Celine Payette, leader of the Senate Opposition. Her Advisor and Aide spoke to us at length are quite concerned about Scientology and Narconon practices in Canada. I submitted over 1,000 pages of documents to this Senators Office.

As you are well aware, the Quebec Human Rights Commission has investigated Narconon Trois-Rivieres on my behalf following a formal complaint from me as an Employee.

This complaint is filed with your office as me being a patient, and on behalf of the many other abused patients at Narconon Trois-Rivieres.

Within the next few days, I will meet with the Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services in Trois-Rivieres. Upon my return, I will submit to your office, additional evidence documents for your review.

I have the names and contact information for more than 600 patients who were patients at Narconon Trois-Rivieres, including the ones who were sexually abused by Narconon Staff. Although these staff members were fired, no counselling or other medical therapy was offered to these abused patients.

I urge you to begin an investigation into the Exploitation of the vulnerable patients subject to the abuses and discrimination at Narconon Trois-Rivieres.

Dear Mr. Love,

As you can imagine, I still haven’t heard from Narconon‘s attorneys yet.

3 different scenarios are possible:

(1) They will contact me this afternoon with a new proposition for settlement;
(2) They will contact me this afternoon to request a new extension;
(3) They will remain silent.

If they request an extension, would you agree to a 2-3 days delay? Would you agree to wait until Monday or Tuesday to hear their proposition?  The only option that remains, otherwise, is to go to court with all the consequences attached to such a decision.

If we do not hear from them today, the next step available for us will be to prepare the legal proceedings next week and go to court. As long as Narconon is not under the protection of Bankruptcy Law, nothing prevents us from going to court.

But we have to be realistic. If Narconon agrees to pay some damages, it will be in exchange of your confidentiality (from the three of you).  If we go to court, the case will then be public and the chances that they will agree to pay damages are almost void.

We will see how the situation evolves this afternoon. Be certain that I will keep you up to date of any developments.

VERDICT: Scientology’s Quebec rehab facility violated human rights of David Love and 2 others

David Edgar Love and two other former patients of a Canadian drug rehab facility run by Scientology’s front group, Narconon, have won a stunning victory from Quebec’s human rights commission.

More than three years after Love complained about the way he was treated as a patient and employee of the Narconon Trois-Rivières facility (now closed), the Quebec Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse has produced a scathing finding of fact that Narconon did violate Love’s human rights.

“This is a big win,” Love told us during a Skype conversation Wednesday night.

Over several years, Love has won several victories against the Narconon facility, which was closed down in 2012 by Quebec health officials who were acting on Love’s complaints and voluminous documentation. He also had earlier won a labor settlement over his work at the facility, and convinced the Quebec College of Physicians to ban a doctor from the facility. But it was the human rights commission that Love especially wanted a result from. (See our previous story with extensive background on his experience as a Narconon patient and employee.)

Love was able to bring a complaint to the commission because it investigates cases of discrimination against the “disabled” — and Canada’s supreme court has found that drug addicts fall under that designation. (Narconon fought that application in this case, Love says, but the commission ultimately sided with him.)

“They went out and interviewed people right across Canada,” Love says. And he thinks the commission’s decisive statement of findings will reverberate across the country and internationally.

“Here Scientology has a ‘Citizens Commission on Human Rights,’ and what happened? They were found to be violating human rights. After a three and a half year investigation, it was found that Narconon violated the human rights of three people. I think this will help people down south and around the world,” he said.

The commission agreed with what Love has been saying since he left the Narconon center in 2009 — that the rehab facility’s operations were based in deceptive business practices which put its patients in danger. The commission’s report lays out a damning litany of conditions that were imposed on Love and the other patients.

It’s a powerful indictment of a Scientology front group that is also under investigation or facing lawsuits in Georgia, Oklahoma, Nevada, and California. (Narconon insists that it is independent of Scientology whenever it finds itself in trouble or has to respond to media inquiries. But there’s simply no question that Narconon was developed by Scientology to burnish its image and operates under umbrella groups staffed only with Scientology “Sea Org” workers. Scientology’s leader, David Miscavige, always touts Narconon as a Scientology project when he’s speaking at private church events.)

Love and the other two former patients were each awarded “moral” and “punitive” damages by the commission. (The amounts are redacted in the copy of the report we’ve posted, below.) But Love explains that the commission lacks enforcement power. It gave Narconon a deadline to pay the damages, and that deadline passed on April 4. The commission will have to file suit against Narconon in order to force it to pay the damages.

Short of that, the commission’s attorneys have been encouraging Narconon to work out a settlement with the three victims. Love says Narconon offered to pay him 20 percent of what he had been awarded, but required all three victims to agree to a confidentiality agreement. Love refused. He says Narconon has said it will file for bankruptcy if the commission takes it to court, so if Love continues to refuse, none of the victims will see a dime.

“If I don’t sign, the other victims don’t get their money. That’s weighing on me a lot,” he says. But he explains that he hasn’t come this far to sign what amounts to a gag order — not when he’s trying to publish a bookabout his experiences.

In the meantime, Love has been the subject of a ferocious “fair game” campaign, with anonymous websites smearing him regularly. Recently, he says he went on a date, and a photograph of him strolling with his companion showed up on one of the smear sites, with language suggesting that his date was in danger.

“The ‘dead agent’ attacks are pretty unbelievable. It’s been hell,” he says. “They’ve posted this stuff all over the Internet about me.”

For now, however, he’s happy to have the commission’s findings, even if the prospect of getting any money from it are complex and perhaps nonexistent.

“I’m not in it for the money,” he says.

On November 20, 2014, another Formal Complaint was filed to a government agency in Canada similar to one of the above that we won quickly. Still waiting for legal advice concerning additional Defamation Lawsuits that may be filed in the United States and Canada.
